How to nail your 1:1s

At comet, before switching to 15five, I used this super useful spreadsheet to perform all my 1:1s with my team.

Objective:

this document is meant to inspire you and to build your own format in order to perform productive and efficient 1:1 meetings with your direct reports. We did that at comet because before, most 1:1 werent well prepared and there was very little follow up. We used this template in my team and it proved to be quite efficient. We now use another tool called 15:5 which allows us to do quite the same.

Frequency of the meetings at comet:

weekly

Structure of the meeting:

we would spend the first 15 minutes talking about the current mood, some feedbacks, from me to my team and from the team to me, but also about more personal stuff issues, etc. Then we would dedicate the next 15 minutes to talk about a specific topic (for instance a large project) + smaller issues that we would both think about before the meeting, and write down in a spreadsheet similar to the second tab of this document. We would also follow up on previous items stored in the same spreadsheet allowing us to move forward quite efficiently without forgetting some topics/issues.

Email sent to my team a few days before our 1:1:

Hello [firstname], Our 1:1 is next Monday so make sure to come prepared 💅 This week like the previous one we will segment our 1:1 in 2 different parts:

Part 1

: Spend 15 minutes on current mood, how everything goes with the team, your work, positive and negative feedbacks (me to you and you to me)

Part 2:

The main topic this week will be about Don't hesitate to ask me any question or send me remarks if you disagree with something, if you want to change the specific topic, etc. ✨✨✨✨

If you have any question just send me an email at [email protected]
